The Rickards Arms is the junior of the Otley
pubs. It joined the company in 1998 and is a good old fashioned
watering hole. The age of the pub is officially unknown, but it is
rumoured to date back to the 17th or 18th century.
The Rickards is the place where you can let
your hair down, and enjoy a few pints in any way you like. There are
several small bars if you want a quieter drink, or the main bar is
usually a bit of a rock zone on the weekend. There are also a few
televisions scattered around if you fancy watching the rugby.

Main Features
The Pool Room
This unusual shaped part of the pub is often
likened to the Cavern Club of Beatles fame. It used to be a cellar, but
is now home to the pool table.
Beer Garden
This is one of the largest and hottest gardens
in Trefforest (weather permitting of course!). It’s high walls
protect you from the breeze in summer, creating quite a sun trap. It
also has patio heaters for those not so warm evenings.
Restaurant
The Rickards can be quite deceptive, not least
of all in that it has an entirely separate restaurant situated upstairs
at the back of the pub, next to the garden. At the moment the
restaurant (nicknamed Off the Rails due to its close proximity to the
railway track) is only available for group bookings or buffets. Meals
& snacks are currently served in the bar areas.
Cask Cider & Ales
Another stockist of our very own Otley Ales,
our regular ale being O-B-Session, a 3.8% traditional session
ale. The Rickards is also one of the only pubs in town that has cask
conditioned cider on tap. Addlestones is 5.2% abv, though it can seem
much stronger. Dare you try it!
Henry the Ghost
There have many sightings of this apparition,
generally just seen as a figure passing by the end of the bar in the
old cider room. Apparently he likes his cider. He even made a rare
appearance in the South Wales Echo in October 2006. A copy of the
article can be found on the wall in the pub.
